Belted Kingfisher. A very cool bird that you usually hear before you see. It's call is a piercing rattle. No nesting in a tree for this bird . They burrow in a dirt bank near water which extends 3–6 feet into the bank, sloping upward so that rainwater won’t collect inside. They must be doing something right as fossils over 600,000 years old have been unearthed in Florida & Texas. Check image #8892. After it catches a fish it smacks it on a branch a few times to kill it and then eats it. My kind of bird!
